St John's strives for holistic growth of each student
At St John’s Lutheran Primary School, we emphasize the development of core literacy and numeracy skills alongside an inquiry-based approach to Christian Studies and other curriculum areas. Our students are encouraged to think critically, take initiative, accept responsibility, and build self-confidence. Through meaningful and relevant learning experiences, we also foster collaboration and celebrate the efforts of each child.
A comprehensive curriculum
We offer a broad curriculum, taught by specialist teachers in subjects such as Japanese, Music, Visual Arts, and Physical Education. Students are also engaged in a variety of extracurricular activities beyond the classroom, including excursions, incursions, camps, performances in the Arts, and opportunities in sport and leadership.
The school follows the Victorian Curriculum, which outlines the essential knowledge and skills every student should acquire throughout their schooling. This curriculum aligns with the Australian Curriculum while reflecting Victorian priorities. It focuses on lifelong learning, social development, and preparing students for active and informed citizenship.
Within each Key Learning Area, students also develop key capabilities such as Critical and Creative Thinking, Intercultural Understanding, Ethical Understanding, and Personal and Social Capability. These capabilities are explicitly taught across the curriculum. Most teaching is led by class teachers, with team teaching and specialist instruction incorporated as needed.
Christian Studies Curriculum Framework (CSCF)
Christian Studies is an integral part of our curriculum, with the Christian Studies Curriculum Framework (CSCF) guiding the delivery of faith-based learning. The Christian gospel is woven throughout all aspects of school life, and students participate in Christian Education and worship as part of their learning journey.
Curriculum and resources are regularly reviewed to ensure we stay aligned with current educational trends, providing our students with the best possible learning experiences.

Finding joy in creativity
Our Performing Arts program includes opportunities for students to showcase their talents in events such as the school concert, Art Alive evening, and local Music Festival.
Creativity is celebrated, and students are encouraged to develop their skills in Art, Drama, and Music.
Annual musical productions and weekly Chapel services provide additional opportunities for students to practice performance skills, build stage confidence, and experience the joy of being part of a team.

Physical development through sports
Physical Education plays a vital role in our curriculum, fostering both physical development and the values of excellence, perseverance, and teamwork. Students are encouraged to participate in all physical activities, including annual events such as the Inter-House Athletic Carnival, Swimming Carnival, and Cross-Country. We also offer opportunities for students to compete in inter-school competitions, with pathways to District, Division, Regional, and State levels.
A weekly PE lesson, taught by a specialist PE teacher, is complemented by a daily fitness program organized by our student leaders. Sportsmanship skills are woven into every PE lesson, and students in all year levels engage in a variety of sports to develop communication, decision-making, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Foundation students participate in the Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), which supports the development of gross motor coordination, balance, fine motor skills, body awareness, and spatial awareness. This integrated program helps children improve their overall functioning in school and beyond.

Preparing for the future workplace
STEM education is a key focus at St John’s, providing students with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for success in a rapidly changing world.
A solid grounding in STEM fields early on gives students an advantage in secondary and tertiary education and prepares them for future careers in technology-driven fields.
Our students engage in hands-on learning through activities like programming robotics, coding, and problem-solving using construction, fostering critical thinking and innovation. These experiences help our students become technological natives, ready to navigate the future.
