We foster positive relationships and inclusivity
At St John’s Lutheran Primary School, pastoral care is a central focus, encompassing personal and social well-being, resilience, and support for a wide range of student needs. We believe that a student’s well-being is closely linked to positive relationships and a sense of connectedness to school.
A caring environment
Our goal is to create an environment where students are not only cared for, but also learn to care for others. We encourage students to engage actively with their learning and to build positive, respectful relationships within the school and broader community.

Seeking Christ
Worship is an integral part of life at St John’s, where we celebrate our identity as God’s people in Jesus Christ. Through worship, we explore His plans and purposes for us, both individually and as a community, shaping us for service within our local and global communities. At St John’s, the gospel of Jesus Christ informs all aspects of our teaching, learning, and relationships.
Daily devotions, Chapel services, Christian Studies classes, and our Scripture-based Behaviour Management Policy all contribute to nurturing students’ confidence and self-belief. Our Chaplain provides additional support to students, staff, and families. The Word of God is the foundation for our relationships, teaching, learning, and all activities within our school community.
St John's students have a voice
At St John’s Lutheran Primary School, we believe that every student is created with great potential, purpose, and a unique destiny. We see it as our responsibility, in partnership with families, to provide students with opportunities to discover their passions and abilities, empowering them to live generously and meaningfully in the world. We encourage our students to be diligent and compassionate, confident and responsible, proactive and thoughtful in their approach to learning and life.

Student Representative Council (SRC)
At St John’s, students of all ages are encouraged to contribute to decisions and ideas that shape their learning and school environment. We believe that for students to participate meaningfully in decision-making, they must be provided with the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and knowledge. The Student Representative Council (SRC) plays a key role in fostering student voice, allowing students to actively engage in shaping their school community.
Child Safety is our top priority
At St John’s Lutheran Primary School, the safety and well-being of all students is our top priority. We are committed to providing a child-safe environment where all children feel protected and secure.
We have developed a comprehensive Child Protection and Safety Policy that outlines our approach to safeguarding children from abuse. This policy reflects our commitment to preventing all forms of child abuse, including sexual offences, grooming, physical violence, emotional or psychological harm, neglect, and exposure to family violence.
St John’s Lutheran Primary School has a zero-tolerance policy towards child abuse. We are dedicated to acting in the best interests of children, ensuring they are safe from harm. The school takes its child protection responsibilities seriously, providing the necessary resources to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations and to maintain a culture of child safety.
Our Child Safe Principles
Our commitment to child safety is guided by the following principles, which inform the development and regular review of our policies, procedures, and practices to protect children from abuse:
All children have the right to be safe.
The welfare and best interests of the child are paramount.
The views of the child and their privacy must be respected.
Clear expectations of appropriate behaviour are established in our Child Safety Code of Conduct and Staff and Student Professional Boundaries Policy.
The safety of children depends on maintaining a child-safe culture.
Child safety awareness is promoted and openly discussed within our school community.
Staff, volunteers, third-party contractors, and external education providers are carefully screened, as all play a role in child-connected work.
Child safety and protection are everyone’s responsibility.
Child protection training is mandatory for all School Board members, staff, and volunteers.
Procedures for responding to suspected or alleged incidents of child abuse are simple and accessible to all members of the school community.
All children, particularly those who are vulnerable, have the right to care and support.
Children from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds, including those identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, have the right to special care and support.
Children with disabilities have the right to special care and support.
Child Protection Program
St John’s Lutheran Primary School is dedicated to effectively implementing our Child Protection Program and ensuring it is regularly reviewed and updated. We take a risk management approach, identifying key risk indicators and assessing potential risks to child safety, taking into account factors such as the nature of school activities, physical and online environments, and the characteristics of the student body.
Our Child Protection Program sets clear policies and procedures for safeguarding children from abuse. As part of our induction process, all staff and direct-contact volunteers are required to complete training on the content of this program.
Reporting Concerns
Our Child Protection Program provides clear guidance on identifying signs of child abuse and how to report concerns. Concerns should be directed to one of our School’s nominated Child Protection Officers, Mrs. Tara Pritchard or Mrs. Megan Alexander. Communications will be treated confidentially on a ‘need-to-know’ basis.
In cases of immediate danger, the Police should be contacted by calling 000
