The official date is 31 October, allowing many of us to celebrate the occasion on Friday, recognising the day when Martin Luther courageously posted his 95 Theses on the door of Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, in 1517.
This bold act sparked the Protestant Reformation, a movement that reshaped the Church and reaffirmed the truth that salvation is a gift from God, not something we can earn, but something freely given through Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Luther’s message was clear:
the Bible is the ultimate authority in matters of faith, and God’s grace is at the heart of the Gospel.
Lutheran schools continue to be shaped by this understanding. We strive to be communities of grace, love, and forgiveness, where every student is valued and reminded of God’s unending mercy.
On Friday, after Chapel, each student received a special Luther seal memento, a symbol deeply connected to our Lutheran identity. In Luther’s time, families often had a seal or coat of arms that represented their values or profession. Luther’s seal, unsurprisingly, was all about Jesus, a visual reminder of the faith that anchors us.
As we reflect today, may we be inspired by Luther’s courage and the enduring truth of the Gospel. Happy Reformation Sunday
